The E-Tran (eye-transfer) frame is a low-tech communication aid for people who have difficulty with speech. The E-Tran frame and stand are constructed of 3mm Perspex, and the E-Tran frame is 450mm wide and 350mm tall. All of the lettering, words and colours are printed directly onto the Perspex with durable, wipe clean inks. The E-Tran frame is printed identically on both sides, to speed up communication and ease of use.
How do you use E-Tran?
The frame is held by the communication partner and 18″ (45.72 cm) in front of the user’s face at eye level. The user looks at the place where the letter they wish to communicate is positioned and then to the corresponding colour disc of that letter. The communication partner confirms each letter. If appropriate they can pre-empt the word the user is building up.
Who is E-Tran used with?
People who are able to move their eyes intentionally and have basic spelling skills, for example individuals with Motor Neurone Disease or Multiple Sclerosis.
